Border Stylo and the Con of 2009

Being a tech company, we like to think we’re good at “geeking out”, so who better to hook up with Glass Swag than our fellow geeks down at San Diego Comic Con. Last Thursday, we made the trek down to the whale’s ______ with t-shirts, waterbottles, buttons, and stickers, in hand, to give away to the lovely patrons of the Con and good times were had by all.

For all the nerdy details, read on.

When prepping our swag we had one really important task, to make swag that looked cool and of great quality. Too often you run into the XL shirts you can never wear, loads of garbage, or items with design as an afterthought. Being the obsessed individuals we are, we wanted to hook people up with valuable swag that was worth keeping around. That said, we brought 3 shirt designs on super-soft, American Apparel fabric, metal waterbottles, buttons, and some rad stickers.

Now, I don’t know if you were there, but we wandered every inch of that floor handing out swag just because we felt like it. No need to wait in lines, no need to camp out or make appointments, just great stuff for cool people.

What was most entertaining about this process, is that since we were handing things out to whomever, people seemed to think it was a trick. No one believed that we were giving away the items we were, but once they realized they could have it, they were thrilled at the opportunity to get something great without the absurd hassle.

We brought all these items to promote our first in a series of teaser videos for Glass, the first of which can be viewed at welcometoglass.com.

The Border Stylo team had a great time down there and we hope all of you did too. We even had time to geek out about our favorite comics and artists – Scott Pilgrim (a favorite graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley and upcoming movie) and Katie Cook (an artist with a great take on all of our favorite characters). If you got some swag, congrats, if not, be on the lookout for us at various locations throughout the summer, we’ll have plenty more to handout.

And, I’d like to say a huge thanks to David Rostal who came down to help us out, make us laugh, and nerd out over all the games, comics, and movies we could handle.

While I’ve got you, I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Jennifer Beese. She’ll be taking on the role of our Community Manager and will be your conduit to all things Border Stylo and Glass. We all find her very entertaining and hope you will too. Be on the lookout for her taking over the blog next week.

High 5’s all around!

I love the video of Glass.

The strategy to hand out great sway is a great idea. Being from Austin where the owner of Sweat Leaf Tea has had such an impact on the entrepreneurial community, you learn very quickly how he has grown the company to its rank
