My 5 Favorite Career-Specific Sites

2We find that many of the folks (folks such as yourself) come to visit our site in search of jobs. While software is our game, our team members themselves bring a wide-range of job experience to the office every morning, reflecting that we have a unique blend of personalities on our team who have a many of passions and pursuits. Some of the other jobs of our team members have included, just to name a few, film producer, online video director, military soldier, smoke-jumping fireman, doctor (pending), open source guru, lifeguard, dock worker, business manager, real estate agent, TV studio page, concert security guard, financial analyst, stand-up comic, artist, blogger, screenwriter, machinist and baseball vending barker. Clearly, we all have a wide-range of interests and pursuits.

At any given time, our site lists a number of open job posts, but we are only one company. In your job search, you could visit the big job sites, but good luck sifting through that haystack and finding a needle that is worth applying for. If you’re currently searching for jobs, or just have as many passions as we do, check out this list of career-specific job sites to help narrow down your hunt. Each focuses on a specific industry:
Ed2010 – For the inside scoop on all things editorial, this website’s for you. Started by two friends in 1998 as a means to become magazine editors by the year 2010 (I hope they made it there), it has become a networking resources for editorial assistants and editors alike. Check out Whisper Jobs for inside scoops.
Baseball Jobs – This one is a bit self-explanatory, if you’re interested in being a part of America’s pastime, then check it out. Managed by Major League baseball, the page is simple in layout and design, but very valuable as it lists open jobs and internships for all 32 MLB teams and the league’s front office.
Media Bistro – As the saying goes, there are no ‘help wanted’ signs in Hollywood, but if you want to get a start in entertainment, this would be your best bet. Billed as a resource for all creative industries, Media Bistro lists jobs on the creative and executive sides of mediums ranging from web to film.
37 Signals Job Board – Although technically a software company, 37 Signals has developed a quality community of web developers and designers which includes a job board that is utilized and respected by large and small companies alike. To say that some our team ‘likes’ 37 Signals would be an understatement.
Idealist – started by non-profit Actions Without Borders, Idealist is a resource for anyone looking to change the world. Spanning six continents, the site can help you locate jobs and volunteer opportunities at non-profit and government agencies in almost any country world-wide.
