How OK Go and Ignite LA blew my mind

Last night I sat in a room with at least one hundred other people for Ignite LA. If you’re not familiar Ignite LA is a series of presentations by people who are passionate about something. Each speaker has 5 minutes, 20 slides and 15 seconds per slide. This event takes place in multiple cities, so definitely take the time to see if it’s near where you live.

At the beginning of the evening, we were told that by the end our minds would be blown. I wasn’t so sure. The first couple speakers were really great, but I wouldn’t say I was blown away. But I spoke too soon.

I want to highlight some of those speakers because they had such interesting stories. It’s hard to believe that in one night I learned about pattern recognition, robotics, mapping India with triangles and working with difficult people all in 20 minutes! I promise I’ll get to that, but today I want to focus on the last presentation.

We heard Adam Sadowsky with Synn Labs. He told us how he was approached by OK Go to create a music video for ‘This Too Shall Pass’ using a Rube Goldberg. A Rube Goldberg is essentially a way to turn an easy task into a difficult one.

Of course OK Go had some really insane guidelines: It had to move to the rhythm and beat of the music, needed to span two floors, and most importantly, it had to be done in one shot. No pressure right?

Well Synn Labs and OK Go officially blew our minds. This video was just released yesterday and the Ignite LA crowd had the pleasure of being some of the first to see it.

The reason I’m pointing this out is because there are some truly amazing ideas out there with the skills, determination and passion to back them up. Last night was nothing short of mind blowing. It was inspiring to see so many passionate and talented people in my own backyard.

I urge you to attend an Ignite event if you get the chance. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I was there too!!! Really amazing performance, mind = definitely blown by this video. I love the sense of pure wonder, excitement and joy when experiencing the fruit of all the labor that someone has put into something they’re truly passionate about. I was smiling big and on the edge of my seat the whole time!
PS. I came to the blog to hunt for an invite code… any clues to where one would be? :)
