Company
Border Stylo is a group of friends and renegades from a variety of backgrounds. We've got veterans, greenhorns, and some suit-types (though no one here wears a suit) who are out trying, together, to master the universe.
Diego Prats
CEO
Co-Founder
Diego was born in Chiapas, Mexico and attended Harvard where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Economics (after 3 years of Applied Mathematics). He returned to Mexico where he worked as a financial supervisor for Procter & Gamble before returning to the U.S. to pursue a master's degree in Operations Research at the University of Southern California. Prior to founding Border Stylo, Diego worked as a research assistant at a think tank sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. He plans to finish his Ph.D. from USC's industrial engineering program when things settle down.
In his spare time, Diego remains in awe that he can live in sunny Burbank with the beautifully simple middle class life he always dreamed about. His new dream is helping others reach said life.
Oscar Guido
COO
Co-Founder
Raised in Tijuana, Oscar received a scholarship to study Political Science at Harvard University. After graduating cum laude, he moved to Los Angeles and worked in the film industry while obtaining a master's degree in media and film finance from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. During his studies at USC, Oscar worked for several of the top media companies including Fox Searchlight and New Line Cinema.
When not at the office, Oscar can normally be found collecting designer toys, stalking the Dodgers and immersed in his love of cinematic arts.
Eduardo Prats
President of Products
Co-Founder
Eduardo was born in Mexico City and proudly attended Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) in Mexico City where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. While in college, he served in the Mexican army and worked as a freelance consultant developing optimization strategies for various business firms. Eduardo then moved to Los Angeles where he developed the original concept that would spur the formation of Border Stylo.
During his free time, Eduardo plays video games, listens to vinyl records, and is now learning to ride a bike. He is awaiting the next Neutral Milk Hotel album.
Judd Kessler
Co-Founder
A New York City native, Judd graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in economics. Upon graduation, Judd received the prestigious Harvard-Cambridge Fellowship and used it to earn a master's degree in Economics at Cambridge University. He is now back in the hallowed halls of Harvard pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Economics, enjoying distracting forays to Border Stylo's offices in sunny Hollywood.
In the few moments of free time he has, Judd can be found on his couch watching a classic episode of the Simpsons or, when he is more energetic, on the basketball court attempting to relive his days as the shooting guard for his high school team.
Dan Yoder
VP of Engineering
Dan Yoder brings more than 25 years of software design and development experience to Border Stylo. Having been involved in nearly every aspect of the software business, Dan has experience in multiple startups, founding SchoolPeople (among the first K12 Web portals) in 1999, and, more recently, helping to launching SharesPost (the first and largest private equity exchange). He also was the development director for AT&T Interactive's R&D team, building it from 2 developers to 28. Later, that team launched one of the first voice search applications for the iPhone, among several popular consumer iPhone prototypes, that together exceeded a quarter of a million downloads through word-of-mouth alone. Dan is a frequent speaker on Ruby, REST, and Ajax development and the author of numerous open source projects, including Waves (a Ruby Web framework) and DateJS. Dan holds a Computer Science degree from the University of Michigan, specializing in distributed AI.
When he's not rocking the geek chic in Hollywood, Dan can be found out and about around Santa Monica, boogie boarding, mixing R&B grooves on his Mac, or practicing the dark art of grilling.
Thomas Bushnell, BSG
Lead Programmer
Furnace Team
Thomas Bushnell brings more than 20 years of programming and software development experience to Border Stylo. A founder and principal architect of the GNU Hurd, he is a world-renowned figure in the open source development and programming community. Joining Border Stylo from the Debian Project, Thomas has also worked as an information systems programmer at MIT and a software architect and programmer for the Free Software Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. and master's degree from the University of California, Irvine and a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Besides guiding those around him, Thomas enjoys sitting in the company's rooftop garden watching the sunset with a cool drink in hand.
Jason Campbell
Lead Programmer
Silica Team
Born and raised in southern California, Jason graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology. Focusing on bottom-up design patterns in web and application development, he uses tools like Ruby on Rails, Cucumber and Rspec. Prior to joining Border Stylo, Jason served as founder and owner of several companies including Greater Good, Inc. and WeBuildThings.Net. Additionally, he acted as Chief Operating Officer for DCM, Inc.
A man of many tastes and activities, Jason is the office's Iron Man as he trains for triathlons and 100-mile bike rides. In between training and work, he rips the guitar (in half, it's crazy we've seen him do it) in a local hardcore/punk band.
Nicolas LaCasse
Lead Programmer
Pane Team
To describe this Los Angeles resident and MIT graduate as a "whizz kid" would be an understatement. Fascinated with coding since he was a little tike, Nick holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics, as well as linguistics and philosophy, from MIT. During the course of his undergrad work, Nick became so enchanted by the structures and patterns in natural language that he combined his love for computer science and language when he earned a master's degree in computational linguistics from UCLA. Admittedly more of a computer engineer than an academic, Nick is continuing to build his linguistic prowess through the pursuit of a Ph.D. at UCLA.
Once the computer is shut down and the books are closed, this self described "non-militant, PETA-despising" vegan can be found digging for hip-hop records at the local music store, hiking the Angeles National Forest, haggling at the Rose Bowl Flea Market and confusing himself at the Museum of Jurassic Technology. Oh, and if you ever run into Nick, ask him for his chocolate chip cookie recipe. The only thing you'll regret is not asking.
